There are plenty of ways to make your home the perfect place to reduce stress after a long day at work. Here are seven top tips for relaxing at home–and it’s easier than you think!
1) Take a Time Out
After a fast-paced day of running errands or working long hours, it’s time to take a time out! Find a quiet place to take a moment to quiet your mind and practice some relaxation techniques like meditation or some deep breathing exercises. Just focusing on your breath for ten to fifteen minutes a day can help ease anxiety, as well as lowering blood pressure.
2) Find a Hobby
Finding and engaging in a hobby can actually be very relaxing after a long day. Find something that you love and you have a good time doing, like quilting, fishing, sewing, painting, or taking photographs.
3) Pamper Yourself
Find a relaxing environment and spend a little time pampering yourself. Take a moment to read a book, paint your nails, or sit and enjoy a soothing cup of chamomile tea. Fix your hair or take time during a bath to give yourself a facial mask treatment. Using calming essential oils, like lavender can also help calm your nerves and make you feel more relaxed.
4) Relax in the Hot Tub
Nothing is more relaxing than sitting in in a bubbly hot tub after a stressful day. Hydrotherapy or soaking in hot water with jets will ease your tensions, improve circulation, and help your body detoxify. Studies have shown that 15 minutes of time in the hot tub before bed helps you fall asleep faster, and stay asleep, too!
5) Get Disconnected
One of the top things you need to do to relax is to get disconnected. Disconnected from your cell-phone, internet, computer, games, and anything else with a screen! Take this time being disconnected to practice one of the other recommendations, like deep breathing, taking time to soak in a hot tub, or maybe try something new, like a yoga for relaxation video.
6) Laugh Out Loud
You might not realize it, but laughing and smiling is a sure-fire way destress. Laughter is one of the top stress relief medicines and boosts your endorphins and the other feel-good hormones in your body. Tell funny jokes around the dinner table, or watch a wacky comedy to get you in good spirits.
7) Enjoy Some Tunes
Listening to music is another terrific way to relax at home. Find a comfy spot in your living room, or anywhere else you can stretch out, and play your favorite tunes. Research has shown that listening to soothing music can actually lower blood pressure and anxiety. Create a playlist just for your relaxation time with the soothing sounds of nature, classical music, or any other sounds and songs that let you release steam.
